The Old Mission Beach Athletic Club (OMBAC) is calling all players, beach-goers, and sports enthusiasts to the biggest summer event in San Diego!
The 69th Annual World Championship Over-the-Line (OTL) Tournament will take place on July 9-10 and July 16-17 at Fiesta Island on Mission Bay. Over 1,000 teams will hit the sand at sunrise on Saturday morning, July 9, with their bats, balls and most creative team names to kick-off 69 years of San Diego tradition. Fiesta Island is a short drive from Old Town and the Western Inn. The early start times makes it easy to roll out of bed and over to the sandy beach of Fiesta Island.Games start at 7:30 AM promptly and continue until dark on both weekends of OTL. Refer to your confirmation card/email for start date/time. Alcoholic beverages can be consumed at the event but be prepared to stayed hydrated and bring sunscreen. The day at the beach is long and dry so be safe and healthy.
All teams that are not seeded teams returning from last years tournament will be playing the 1st weekend. Select divisions only play 2nd weekend. When signing up, you need to select Saturday or Sunday of the 1st weekend for your start date. OTL is known for, among other things, having very colorful team names. Having a funny or provocative team name is part of the overall tournament tradition.
First weekend games are three innings only. 2nd weekend games are four innings. Men’s Open final Sunday will have a time limit imposed.
This summertime staple draws teams from all over the world, but Over-the-Line originated right here in San Diego. The sport has grown dramatically from a few friends playing ball in the sand to an annual two-weekend tournament that attracts thousands of players and spectators.
